Delicious Gulkand Recipe – Rose Petal Jam(2025)

Making Gulkand at home is simple and requires minimal ingredients. By preparing it yourself, you can ensure the freshness of rose petals and avoid preservatives found in store-bought varieties. Daily consumption in small amounts can provide a refreshing, cooling effect, especially during hot summer months. It can also be blended in milk to make a nutritious and soothing drink.

Ingredients for Gulkand

IngredientQuantity
Fresh Rose Petals (preferably desi)250 gm
Sugar250 gm

Total Yield: Approximately 450–500 gm

Preparation-

  1. Prepare Rose Petals: Collect fresh rose petals, preferably desi varieties. Sort and wash them thoroughly. Dry completely to remove any moisture. Optionally, crush or finely chop the petals to release their natural juices.
  2. Layer with Sugar: Take a clean, dry, airtight glass jar. Add rose petals and sugar in layers, mixing gently so that sugar coats all petals evenly.
  3. Sun Infusion: Keep the jar in sunlight for 2–3 weeks. This helps in natural fermentation and extraction of the rose essence into sugar.
  4. Daily Stirring: Stir the mixture every day with a clean, dry spoon to ensure uniform consistency and proper infusion.
  5. Check for Readiness: After 2–3 weeks, the petals will release their juices and form a thick, aromatic jam. The Gulkand should have a soft, slightly sticky texture.
  6. Storage: Store the prepared Gulkand in a clean, airtight jar. Consume 2–3 tablespoons daily or blend in milk for a cooling, refreshing drink.

Health Benefits of Gulkand

Gulkand is not just a sweet treat; it is a natural health tonic. It helps improve digestion, supports gut flora, and protects intestinal mucus. It reduces hyperacidity, making it useful for peptic and mouth ulcers. Gulkand can relieve constipation in pregnant women and children safely. Regular consumption also supports skin health by helping manage pimples, boils, and blemishes. Its natural cooling properties promote restful sleep, and it increases urine output, helping reduce water retention or edema.

Precautions

While Gulkand is highly beneficial, it should be consumed in moderation due to its sugar content:

  • Diabetic individuals should avoid due to high sugar content.
  • Obese people should consume in small quantities.
  • Avoid excessive intake to prevent digestive discomfort.
